Comprehensive Services

  • Cardiology office visits
  • Full range of diagnostic testing
  • Diagnostic cardiac catheterizations
  • Coronary intervention, including balloon angioplasty, stenting and drug eluting stents
  • Pacemaker and defibrillator implants
  • Cardiac Rehabilitation

Cardiologists with sub-specialties in electrophysiology and women’s cardiovascular health prevent patients from rural areas from having to travel to larger organizations for care.

Less Stress
This extensive network often lessens the stress on our patients and eliminates travel for them and their families. It’s better for their health. If a person’s condition requires they be transferred to Springfield for additional services, we will coordinate that care with their primary physician and ensure they are sent back to the community for any follow-up care.

Continuity of Care
Communication with patients’ primary care providers and continuity of care for patients is of utmost importance. The Heart Center pairs its doctors and patients so together they walk the patient’s journey to recovery. Only when absolutely necessary does a patient see a partner physician.

Sarah Bush Lincoln and Prairie Heart Institute of Illinois have established methods for doctors to access their patients’ electronic medical records from outside of The Heart Center. This allows doctors to review their patients’ health statuses, check laboratory results and effectively communicate about patients whenever needed.

Prairie Chest Pain Network
Prairie Cardiologists Urge: When chest pains occurs, Always Dial, Never Drive. Dialing 911 saves critical treatment time, connects patients in Mattoon to world class care through the Prairie Chest Pain Network.

To help with this continuity of care, Sarah Bush Lincoln and PHII have established methods by which the doctors can access their patient’s electronic medical record while outside of the Health Center. This allows the doctors to review their patients’ health statuses, check laboratory results and effectively communicate about patients whenever it’s needed.

The team of experts in Monitored Exercise Testing Services (METS) is dedicated to helping patients who have (or are at risk of developing) heart disease, lung disease or diabetes.

The METS team is comprised of doctors, nurses, exercise physiologists, respiratory therapists, dietitians and certified diabetes educators. Team members help patients identify the right wellness programs for them and then get them back on their feet to create a lasting, healthy lifestyle.

• Cardiac Rehabilitation
Cardiac rehabilitation is an exercise and education program for people who have have heart disease or who have had a heart attack or a procedure such as angioplasty, stenting, bypass surgery or valve replacement surgery or heart transplant. Rehabilitation is a strategy for creating a heart-healthy lifestyle to prevent problems from recurring.

• Pulmonary Rehabilitation
Pulmonary rehabilitation is an exercise and education program for people who have COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), emphysema, asthma or other serious lung conditions. Although there is no cure for these diseases, there are effective therapeutic techniques that can help improve health, decrease hospitalizations and improve quality of life.

During cardiac or pulmonary rehabilitation,

  • Our team of experts will evaluate your condition and develop an individualized exercise program.
  • Your heart rate and rhythm or lungs will be continually monitored while your program is fine tuned each step of the way.
  • Education while you are exercising makes the classes enjoyable and allows for support, interaction with other class participants and sharing of ideas.

The goals of cardiac or pulmonary rehabilitation are to:

  • Strengthen the heart, increase tolerance to physical activity and build endurance
  • Reduce the risk of future heart problems
  • Give participants the confidence, understanding and skills needed to care and cope with a chronic illness
  • Teach participants proper nutrition, breathing and relaxation techniques
  • Improve the quality of life of participants
  • Reduce anxiety
  • Educate and support participants while theydevelop healthier lifestyles

Living with Diabetes
This exercise and education program is designed for people with diabetes – from those who have just been diagnosed to those who have been living with diabetes and want to be healthier and feel better. Participants will work one-on-one with a registered dietitian and a registered nurse, both certified diabetic educators, to evaluate your current status, including nutrition assessment. For more information, contact Paula Enstrom, (217) 238-4808.
