February 18, 2015 9:15 a.m.

Sarah Bush Lincoln Family Practice Physician Bernie Ranchero, MD, is among the first in the area to receive the achievement of Diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM).

With a strong interest in wellness and preventive healthcare, Dr. Ranchero recognizes the importance of medical treatment for obesity and now is board certified in treating people for the disease. “Many people struggle to find the adequate support they need to lose weight and improve their health,” Dr. Ranchero said. “A medical specialty in obesity allows me to focus my efforts on helping people identify the right combination of diet, exercise, behavior change and medical treatments to get down to a healthy weight and improve their quality of life.”

Obesity is associated with multiple health problems such as diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, depression, and cancer. It can have a profound impact on the quality of life and work productivity of those affected.

Dr. Ranchero is the Medical Director of Sarah Bush Lincoln’s Weight Management Clinic. We are also excited to announce that Dr. Joan Alvarado will be serving as co-medical director of the weight management clinic starting this April. Dr. Alvarado has been an active leader at SBL and the community in promoting healthy living and weight loss. Along with Kim Ohl, Nurse Practitioner, they provide medical management of obesity and obesity related illnesses. To make an appointment for the Weight Management Clinic or for more information, please call 217-348-4774.

Dr. Ranchero is also board certified in family medicine and provides care at the Ranchero Clinic, which is located at the Sarah Bush Lincoln Center for Healthy Living at 1004 Health Center Dr., Suite 210, Mattoon. To make an appointment with Dr. Ranchero, call 217-348-4961.
